Nantucket - The American Institute of Architecture and the Boston Society of Architects announced this week their bestowing of its 2010 Housing Design Award on the White Elephant Hotel Residences.
The AIA and the BSA jury chose the White Elephant, owned by Nantucket Island Resorts, from 63 properties in New England and New York.
The jury winnowed out the top 10 properties with the criteria of attention to detail, sustainability and the balance between private and public uses. In selecting the White Elephant Hotel Residences, the jury noted that, "their traditional architectural style and village-like setting honors the community's past while the intimate scale and beautifully executed details combine to create tasteful, well-handled public and private spaces suitable for contemporary living."
