Cambridge, MA -- As part of its Earth Day 2008 celebration, CambridgeSide Galleria is announcing new and ongoing initiatives designed to make the mall more eco-friendly. So far this year, CambridgeSide has recycled almost 8 tons of paper, plastic, glass and other materials-almost three tons of which were paper. According to CambridgeSide's recycling partner, Save That Stuff Inc., CambridgeSide's recycling efforts have saved more than 47 trees and 19,425 gallons of water just in the first three months of 2008.
CambridgeSide Galleria's initiatives are focused in five major categories:
- Recycling & Utilizing Recycled Materials
- Energy Management & Light Pollution Reduction
- Supporting Alternative Modes of Transportation
- Green Cleaning
- Water Performance Management
CambridgeSide is actively involved with its merchants to ensure they are taking advantage of recycling and energy management programs. "We are taking a holistic approach to improving our environmental behavior and that means getting every one involved," says Peter DeVito, Director of Operations for CambridgeSide Galleria.
Additionally, the mall is actively involved in the preservation of trees in Canal Park and utilizing green plants inside the mall to improve air quality. A list of Cambridge's eco-friendly initiatives is listed below and is also available on the website: www.shopcambridgeside.com.
